Overview

Between 1876 and 1945, Americans transformed their country from a still largely rural, Atlantic nation into the most powerful industrial nation in the world. But this expansion of power strained the structures of American government and society to the breaking point. This class will explore the transformative years in American history by focusing on some of the major debates, theories, and controversies of the late 19th and early 20th centuries.
